29th July 2018

114 riders from 16 countries are expected to compete in this coming week’s IWWF Europe & Africa (E&A) Wakeboard Championships. The event will be held in Borgo San Pietro, Lago del Salto, Rieti Italy and organised by CNWS Wave and sanctioned by IWWF Europe & Federazione Italiana Sci Nautico e Wakeboard.

In Open Women, Italian twins Alice & Chiara Virag will face strong competition from reigning IWWF E&A Open Women’s Champion Sanne Meijer (NED), who won last weekend’s IWWF European Wakeboard Pro Tour stop in the United Kingdom, and seasoned IWWF World Cup rider Caroline Djupsjö (SWE).

Nikita Martianov (Russia)

Current IWWF E&A Open Men’s Champion David O’Caoimh (IRL) is not amongst the list of participants despite winning 2 out of 3 IWWF European Wakeboard Pro Tour stops this summer and 2016 IWWF World Open Men’s Champion Piffaretti Massimiliano (ITA) is recovering from knee surgery.  This paves the way for the likes of Russia’s Nikita Martianov (RUS), who won the bronze medal in last year IWWF E&A Championships, 2017 World Games Bronze Medalist Guy Frier (ISR) and Nicolò Caimi (ITA), who has placed on the podium at two of the IWWF European Wakeboard Tour stops this summer.

Ariano Blanik (GER), better known as a cable wakeboarder, having won the recent IWWF Jordan Ayla Cable Wakeboard World Cup, and Ireland’s Paul Johnston will be out to give the favourites a run for their money.

Mastercraft, the official towboat of the IWWF Europe & Africa Wakeboard Championships, will have a 2018 X-Star on the water kicking up the biggest wake for the best riders in Europe.

The IWWF Europe & Africa (E&A) Wakeboard Championships will be live streamed; please follow this link for informaiton:
