The IWWF Executive Board has unanimously appointed Louis Polomé its new Secretary General with immediate effect.

Louis became involved with the South African Water Ski Federation In early 1984,  first as a national waterski judge / homologator but also became its technical chair and then President for many years. He has been the Federation’s representative at the National Olympic Committee since 2008.

In 1989, he became an International Waterski Judge as well as Homologator and officiated at many titled events in Europe and Africa. He was the Chief Judge at the 1999 World Waterski Championships in Milan. Louis was involved in staging many international waterski and wakeboard events in South Africa and Namibia.

With the creation of the African Confederation at the IWWF Congress in Chile 2013, Louis became its first President, a position he currently still holds.  Since then, he has managed to keep very close working relationship between the European and African Confederations. Over the last 10 years, he also held positions on the IWWF European & African Admincom, IWWF European & African Waterski Technical Committee as well as the IWWF Bureau and IWWF Executive Board.

Louis Polomé graduated with a Masters degree in Geophysics from the University of Rhodesia in 1979.  He moved to South Africa and started his career with Anglo American Exploration but then moved to Anglovaal Mining where he became its Chief Geophysicist and Manager Geosciences. In 2001, he became the Managing Director of Spectrem Air, an airborne geophysical company which provides worldwide services to the mining industry. He is also the Technical Chair and a Director of the International Airborne Geophysics Safety Association.

Louis is married to Catherine (also an international waterski judge) and has two married sons and five grandchildren (all still very much involved in the sport).

Louis replaces Gillian Miller, who has stepped down after 16 years of very good service and will remain at IWWF’s disposal to assist with the transition.
