At the end of last year, IWWF’s sport discipline councils selected their respective 2019 IWWF Skiers & Riders of the Year.
The IWWF Executive Board has this week selected the IWWF Athletes of the Year from that list of skiers and riders – one female and one male.
The two exceptional athletes who have emerged to take top honors for 2019 are:
Irina Turets – Belarus
Irina Turets won every cableski jump competition she entered in 2019, setting a new World Women’s Cableski Jump Record of 50.8 metres. She won the women’s cableski jump at the 2018 IWWF World Cup stop in Shanghai and is also a very good overall cableskier.
Patricio Font – Mexico
Patricio Font , a 17 year old full-time student, won trick titles at the Nautique Junior Moomba Masters, US Masters and IWWF World Open Waterski Championships in 2019. He was youngest Mexican to win a gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Font broke the world junior trick record 7 times in 2019, most recently shattering the 12,000 point barrier. In December, Patricio was named as the men’s NextGen winner, the prize awarded to the best athlete under-20, at the at the inaugural Panam Sports Awards.
