The IWWF sends its heartfelt condolences to the Morris family on the passing of Russell early Monday evening, 31st August 2020.
Russell’s contributions to our sport, not just in Australia, but around the world are enormous and the memories he has left us profound. Russell was a larger than life character, a proud Geelong man, a proud Victorian and even prouder Australian. Russell had spirit, resilience and was never shy of wearing his heart on his sleeve. He has left an everlasting footprint on our sport, notably the Moomba Masters, Australian waterski teams and the IWWF.
For over 50 years Russell held a long-term commitment to the promotion and rise of a sport he firstly enjoyed himself; in fact, he competed at 3 Moomba Masters from 1965 -1967. Ironically some 26 years later he would be the Moomba Masters Chairman for over 15 years and today be one of the most recognizable personalities and administrators in world waterskiing. Russell also sat on the IWWF Executive Board as the President of IWWF Oceania.
Russell, will be sadly missed, however his legacy and the memories he gave us will live on forever. RIP mate.
