It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Kreg Llewellyn who passed away last week.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Llewellyn family and we extend our sincere condolences and sympathy.

Service details are listed below and we ask that messages of condolence and memories please be shared on Jaret Llewellyn’s Facebook page.

Kreg leaves behind an incredible legacy that touched many lives both in his personal endeavours and in towed water sports communities around the world.

Kreg began his water skiing career in the 1970s at a family cottage on Sylvan Lake, AB.  After meeting Bruce Dodd at a tournament, he and his family began training at Dodd’s Pond in Innisfail, AB. He entered his first Provincial tournament in 1970 and won the Junior Boys Overall Title. Later that year, he set his first Canadian Junior Boys Trick Record.  In 1984, he became an integral part of the Canadian National Water Ski Team and for the next 20 years competed in the Overall events of Slalom, Trick and Jump.

Kreg held 24 Canadian Records and won 7 individual World Championship medals, 3 Gold Team World Championship Medals, and 18 Pan American medals, including 7 Gold, 9 Silver and 2 Bronze, making him one of the best Canadian water skiers of all time. He was known for his Overall strength and powerful performances in Jump, his innovative mastery in Tricks, and energetic performances in slalom. He was a dominant force on the water ski circuit.

Kreg was an innovator and was willing to try anything, doing “tricks that couldn’t be done, to doing them fast”. He also helped design and test the first-ever Skurfer, which was a precursor to the evolution of Wakeboarding. Kreg also won the first-ever World Wakeboard Championships in Hawaii.

His accomplishments and contributions to the sport have also been formally recognized. Kreg won several awards from Water Ski Canada over the years and was recently inducted into The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.

The family are planning a service on Saturday July 18, in San Marcos, TX. The service will take place at the Calvary Chapel of the Springs located at 310 W Hutchinson St., San Marcos, TX.  Following the service there will be a gathering at San Marcos POA River Park to share stories at 7pm (address: 411-498 River Ranch Cir, Martindale, TX)

For loved ones that cannot attend the service due to travel restrictions, the family is planning a celebration of Kreg’s life in Canada in the coming months at Dodd’s Lake in Innisfail, Alberta
